What is Design / Build?

Design / Build is an integrated process where all of the responsibility for the entire remodeling project lay in the hands of a single company. The concept is not new, and it is growing in the home remodeling industry. Ancient Greece used Design / Build Master Builders to design and construct many of the classical structure still standing today. Here at Custom Kitchens by John Wilkins Inc., we do it all. Starting with our design staff, we provide Architectural drawings, Engineering services, we help our clients with product selection and purchases, we order and double check all materials, obtain all building permits, perform all phases of the construction, design and select all interior and exterior finishes and when everything is done, we even put the furniture and dishes back. We are responsible for it all.

Having the design team and the contractor in the same location and in the same building saves time and money. The close proximity of convenient communication allows the contractor and designer to efficiently work through budget constraints and engineering details that could potentially lead to greater costs. This results in a “fixed price” budget or contract with no hidden costs or change orders. Imagine working with your designer on a particular aspect of the project. You both develop a brilliant idea but are not sure of the cost. You will both be able to turn to one of our project managers in the same office for an instant answer. You won’t have to send plans across town and wait for days to get the information you need. Having our cabinet shop here with our showroom has been very convenient as well. If there is a custom detail that you may be considering for your home, stroll out to our shop with our designer and you can discuss the possibilities with our shop foreman.
