This kitchen was outdated, dark, and claustrophobic. It was not connected to the wonderful rear yard patio. The addition of new French doors let in light, openness and expanded the home to include outdoor entertaining. The homeowners also requested areas to display their pottery collection and additional counter space for multiple cooks.

The historic renovation of this charming Berkeley Craftsman house involved the refinishing of the original built-in bench and table. New cabinetry was added at the sink area to include base cabinetry that accommodates a dishwasher, wall cabinetry for storage, and an island with marble top for storage and workspace. The new wood top at the sink is reminiscent of the original which was in need of replacement.

The main objective was to restore the sink area which had been poorly remodeled to a historically accurate design. The fold down table & hidden undercounter refrigerator brought functionality to the kitchen and allowed for the continued use of the original fold-down ironing board built into the wall.
